A new study has just been published in Epilepsia that corroborates previous studies demonstrating the efficacy of epilepsy surgery in reducing epilepsy-related mortality. What makes this one different is the timeframe of the study:

The rationale for early referral epilepsy surgery is to provide individual with as many years of high quality of life as possible, but also to reduce the risks of dying, which have several causes. Go back to the International League Against Epilepsy, various other bodies and published guidelines have been banging on the same drum for many years, imploring early referral for consideration for epilepsy surgery. The above study simply reinforces that message and provides evidence about the magnitude and the durability of the benefit. The reproducibility of the findings of previous studies is also part of good science.
