The patient had several such discharges in sleep. The above 3 pages represent the same 10 seconds via different montages. As Yogi Berra famously said, "You can observe a lot by just watching". In this instance, the waves that precede the spike-and-wave have the characteristic morphology, polarity, and distribution of 14- and 6-Hz positive bursts. Hence, this is a benign variant, and these discharges should not be interpreted as representing interictal epileptiform discharges.
