Asymmetries may be missed by looking at common average montages
Oct 13, 2025I have previously referred to some of the limitations of the common average montage. The following pages highlight this issue. It is far easier to see the differences between the 2 hemispheres on the bipolar montage.
The next 2 images represent the same 10 seconds of the recording:
The following demonstrates an asymmetry of the beta frequencies:
The following demonstrates an asymmetry of frontal alpha frequencies and spindles (7th second):
Sleep:
The above page demonstrates the absence of spindles on the left.
The above demonstrates an asymmetry of the V-waves.
Collectively, the above findings demonstrate severe dysfunction of the left hemisphere.
PS: the paediatric neurologist reports an acute, large, ischaemic, right hemispheric stroke due to zoster.
